The week commencing 7th November 2016 is national trustee week where we showcase the great work that trustees do and highlight opportunities for people from all walks of life to get involved and make a difference.
So what are trustees?
Trustees are the people in charge of a charity. They play a vital role, volunteering their time and working together to make important decisions about the charity’s work. They are responsible for setting out the strategic direction of the charity and must be confident that it is well managed and meeting its objectives. It is the trustees’ responsibility to ensure the organisation is financially secure and complies to all relevant legislation.
- There are approximately 194,000 charities in the UK, each with a share of over 1 million trustees!
- 86,000 trustee positions are held by 16-34 year olds.
- There is countless information, guidance and training on being a Trustee, including at your local Volunteer Centre (that's us!).
- Trustee boards should be diverse, ranging in people of different ages, skills and backgrounds.
- Trustees may be known by different titles such as directors, board members, governors or committee members
- Most Trustees volunteer on average less than 1 hour a week to their organisation.
Forest Voluntary Action Forum are aware that many organisations are desperately looking to recruit trustees in order to govern effectively. As a result we are looking to run a trustee showcase event in January aimed at offering organisations the chance to pitch to people who are thinking about becoming a trustee.
We will then offer FREE Trustee Training to anyone that wishes to take on a position.
