Walking with Wheels: Frequently Asked Questions
What is a 'Tramper'?
A Tramper is an all-terrain electric powered mobility vehicle. It has a restricted speed of up to 4mph which is ideal for accompanying walkers or young children on bikes. The full specification of the Trampers can be found here.
Who can use this service?
Walking with Wheels is open to anyone over 14 years of age and weighing under 25 stone who has difficulty walking because of temporary or permanent mobility difficulties.
What routes can I use it on?
Routes available include to Symond's Yat Rock and down to the river Wye at Symond's Yat from Forest Holidays and Cyril Hart Arboretum, Mallards Pike and parts of the Family Cycle Trail from The Speech House. Maps of the routes will be provided when hiring.
When is it available to hire?
The Tramper is available to hire 9:00 - 5:00 7 days a week (hours may be shorter in Winter to ensure return before dusk).

How much does it cost to hire a Tramper?
The Tramper costs just £2.50 an hour. For first time users there is also a membership fee payable to Countryside Mobility - this is £15 for an annual membership, £5 for a two-week taster membership, or £3 for a single session.
What if I've never used one of these before?
Not to worry! They are very simple and safe to operate and each user will be given a full induction to ensure they feel safe and comfortable to tackle our amazing trails.
What if I need additional help?
We ask that everyone is accompanied on the trails so you will always have someone with you. If you’d like to try a Tramper, before hiring one, please call one of our centres to arrange.
Why do I have to become a member of Countryside Mobility?
Countryside Mobility are responsible for providing the Trampers and this is why they are offered at such an affordable rate. They also work to ensure each site that hosts a Tramper does so in a safe and easily accessible way. This membership will also enable you to use any of the Trampers at the many Countryside Mobility sites across the South West. Please visit the Countryside Mobility website for more information. You can complete membership forms at the centre prior to hiring.
